FTC: I received this book from the publisher for free through BookCrash in exchange for an honest review! Fast Freddy is an amazing children's book that is written by Lee Ann Mancini and is illustrated by Dan Sharp. Upon receiving this book the first thing that jumped out to me was the cover! It just draws you in. I also noticed on the cover that this book has received the Mom's choice award as well as the Benjamin Franklin award. I instantly get super excited that I get the chance to read Sprout a book that has received not one but two awards. The beginning of this book we meet two fish friends Danny and Joey. They are going to school where they are in Miss Mermaid's class together. When arriving there their class has received a new student that looks quite different from everyone else. Freddy has the head of a shark and the body of an octopus. At first the class is put off by Freddy's appearance and stays away from him. This deeply hurts Freddy. Miss Mermaid makes some comments to the students about being different and why it is okay as well as another character. Soon the class is willing to accept Freddy and they learn that he has some amazing talents, and that there is more to him than his appearance. Freddy is a very fast swimmer and is incredibly strong. He joins the schools swim team the Catfish Cruisers. He helps them defeat the team the Barracudas. Freddy makes new friends and begins to love his new school. Another part of this book that I truly love is that we see Freddy praying in the end of the book and he is thankful for the way he is and how Jesus made him. This is very important to me as we don't always take time to thank Jesus for being different. Often we long to be the same. I love that Freddy is thankful for who he is. That is what I want to teach my daughter. I want her to grow-up knowing that it is okay if she doesn't look like everyone else because God made her exactly the way she is. The illustrations throughout this book are sure to draw you and your children in. The bright colors and life like characters make the book fun and really bring the characters to life. After reading the book my family couldn't stop talking about the pictures and Freddy was portrayed just as the author described him. I highly recommend this book to everyone! It teaches a valuable lesson that we do not won't our children to miss out on.
